Shngimawlein (India) [November 2024]
Installation of solar panels
Project 3619 - Benedictine Sisters of Saint Lioba, Shngimawlein (NE India)
Installation of solar panels
Between 1962 and 1965, thirteen young Indian girls from Kerala joined the federation of the sisters of Saint Lioba in Germany (Freiburg). In 1975, they returned to India and set up the first foundation in Bhopal (Ashirbhavan priory), which became an independent priory in 1992. The Congregation has grown considerably in India, and has spread to nine dioceses in the five states of India. It has around twenty houses.
The community is situated at Shngimawlein and the sisters are engaged in different activities like Education, medical and pastoral etc. The children are very poor in studies and the sisters motivate the children as well as the parents to send their wards to the school regularly and provide better atmosphere to study at home. Many children are going for work on Saturdays and Sundays in their own fields. Regarding the economic position they are mainly agriculturists. They work in their own fields and earn for their livelihood.
Project
Though the dispensary is not so well established our sisters cater to the needs of the people to a great extent. At present there are one doctor and two nurses working in the dispensary. St. Benedict Girl’s Hostel has been providing a safe and nurturing environment for 25 of girls from underprivileged backgrounds. Our mission is to empower these young girls through education, skill development, and holistic support. However, we are currently facing significant challenges with the rising cost of electricity, deliberate shut down of electric power due to rain, thunder storm and lightning, which came and we have identified solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective and useful solution. By installing solar panels, we aim to reduce electricity expenses and providing facility allowing us to channel more provision into educational and support services. Promote environmental sustainability by reducing our carbon emission.
Requested amount: 5,980 euros.
